About WeHelp
WeHelp is a community of people who believe in the power of the WeHelp Mindset to change the world. At the moment there is about fifty of us and we can't wait to welcome you to the group. Our main focus is starting WeHelp clubs in schools to spread the idea.
The Origin of WeHelp
I have been mentoring kids in China for 15 years - buying them computers, and teaching them computer programming. Recently we noticed that these guys were all dominating at work so we got together to discuss it. One guy immediately said that it was the 'WeHelp Mindset' - because I helped them, they started helping other people at work. This built strong relationships, teams, and networks. Productivity at work comes from our teams and networks, not how hard we work.
We saw immediately how important this was so I hired several researchers to look into it and they came back shocked. Not only does the WeHelp Mindset double your peak earnings, it also adds years to your life. When I asked how it could add years to your life they pointed out that social support has a bigger effect on mortality than not smoking, and they began to outline the public health crisis facing us today. Once you see the problem it all starts falling into place.
The first WeHelp clubs
While writing the book I gained the WeHelp Mindset and realized that spending time with people is helping them. One day this caused me to run out the door when I saw a neighbor walking his dog and two cats. I said hi, and we spent a couple minutes walking down the block. As we got to his house he started crying and thanking me. It turns out he hadn't had a friend in decades and was drinking himself to death. The two minutes I spent with him was enough to change his life.
When I mentioned WeHelp he immediately said we need to reach out to the kids with this. So we came up with the idea to focus on starting WeHelp clubs.
Success Stories
We started this by word of mouth and I must have talked to over a hundred people in the first few months. The club idea immediately paid off and people absolutely loved it. Our first story was about a kid in China:
I got a call from China one day and this kid was beyond excited. Turns out his uncle had told him to start a WeHelp club in school. He was top of his class, but a loner with no friends which is really odd in China for the best kid in the class as his future career and life was essentially guaranteed. The problem was his anxiety and that changed immediately once he heard about WeHelp. He approached his math teacher about helping other students and then ran up to another kid to ask if he needed help with his work. These two ended up being good friends and playing soccer together every day after school.
My favorite story is about this huge kid who played basketball in high school. He was very religious so a friend put us in contact and I asked him if he wanted to start a WeHelp club. He told me it sounded awesome, but he was too busy trying to get into the NBA to do it. I immediately said why don't you grab a nerd and take him to the gym with you since you are going to be working out every day anyway. He said sure and a few months later he called me to tell me that he is telling college coaches about the WeHelp Mindset because helping the other student changed the mindset of his entire team which increased their points per game by 5-10.
