Mindset is our habits of thought, feeling, and behavior. Think of it as your programming. The brain consumes 25% of our glucose so to conserve energy most of what we think, feel, and do are done on auto pilot. Think about an existing mindset you are familiar with such as the victim mindset. With this mindset all you see are victims.
As soldiers say - when the bullets fly we fall back to our training. Interestingly however virtually everything we do is habit. Even if you aren't under pressure your thoughts and feelings are running on habit.
Compare our definition to the common one: “A set of beliefs or attitudes that shape how a person interprets and responds to situations.” The two definition are close, but ours adds 'habits', and 'feelings'.
Habits. Beliefs and attitudes are simply habits of thought. They arise when presented with a triggering stimulus. Labelling them habits is incredibly important for us to understand that we are pre-programmed, and that we can program ourselves by changing these habits. The words interpreting and responding could imply a rational train of thought which is seldom the case.
Feelings. Feelings I believe are missing from the common definition and this is a mistake. When we spread the WeHelp Mindset we want people to feel that overwhelming positive love when helping others. Helping as a mindset is about controlling our moods by filling out lives with positive emotion. Alternatively we all have negative mindsets that bring fear, and anger which are habits that can harm us on a daily basis. Imagine being constantly angry and irritable and the impact that has on the people around you.
